Annotation: 

The article is devoted to the features of calculating the gently sloping reinforced concrete vaults supported by metal beams. The authors show the main causes of errors at the design of such structures leading to their unjustified strengthening. A new method for calculating the design, taking into account the joint work of its elements, has been developed. This method was used in the calculation of the basement floor slab of the House of Melnikov in St. Petersburg. The results of the calculation are compared with the values obtained as a result of the instrumental analysis.
