The article discusses the solution to the task of forecasting the consequences of catastrophic earthquakes for operated buildings and facilities. We suggest using such basic parameters for verifying the calculation models as natural frequencies, oscillation forms and decrements of objects under earthquake loads. An example of the accident consequences assessment of the building in St. Petersburg, which was partially collapsed as a result of uneven subsidence of the soil base, is given. It is substantiated that the use of dynamic parameters allows solving a variety of problems both in the field of preventive diagnostics of the technical condition of buildings and structures, and for the current forecast of the residual life of damaged objects.
