Annotation: 

Renovation of typical residential development territories is regarded as one of the trends of urban environment qualitative development. The improvement of this process mechanism is an urgent task aimed at solving city-planning and socio-economic problems. The paper considers the implementation stages of built-up areas` renovation mechanism. The residential stock of the first generation of mass housing construction in St. Petersburg is characterized, and the existing mechanism of renovation of typical residential development in St. Petersburg is analyzed. Some measures aimed at improving the mechanism of renovation of these buildings in St. Petersburg are proposed.
