The paper covers the main issues regarding the improvement of the stability of existing precast road pavement solutions. The authors consider the experience of using various road pavement designs in Russia and abroad. The merits and drawbacks of standard designs of road pavements with precast pavement are analyzed, and the characteristics and requirements for new design solutions with improved sustainability are listed. The methods of calculating designs with precast covering are discussed. A conclusion is made that the existing precast concrete pavement solutions have a number of drawbacks caused by irrationally selected composition of elements. The issue is set out regarding the need for optimization of the existing structural and technological designs, and possible research directions are shown.
