Review article

The article deals with the phenomenon of facadism currently occurring in reconstruction and restoration of cultural heritage. The author proposes a conventional division of different methods and approaches of facadism, which allows evaluating the possibility of their use during the work at the architectural monuments. The impact of this phenomenon on the perception of individual architectural objects and ensembles is considered, and the legitimacy of its application in relation to the cultural heritage objects in terms of the international conventions and the restoration theory are considered.
