The occurrence of malfunctions in the operation of the vehicle power supply system leads to unacceptable voltage deviations in the on-board network. Ensuring the fault tolerance of the power supply system involves maintaining the required voltage level based on the proposed changes in the design of the alternator and voltage regulator. It is established that an increase in the voltage of the alternator in case of failures of the stator winding and the rectifier unit is a consequence of the algorithm of the voltage regulator. In order to avoid excessive voltage rise, it is necessary to control the battery voltage in addition to the alternator voltage. Additional control of the excitation current will help avoiding voltage reduction with increasing resistance in the rotor winding circuit. Making changes to the algorithm of the voltage regulator will increase the fault tolerance of the power supply system.
