Review article

The article presents the results of data analysis on measuring the base settlement of a number of steel cylindrical oil tanks erected both in the Russian Federation and abroad. The objective laws of base settlement over the contour of the tank are discovered. The regularities of settlement development along the contour of the tank are determined. A technique of estimating the average and non-uniform settlement of the base arising in the initial period of the tank operation depending on diameter and the thickness power of weak soils is offered.
