Review article

The article describes the history of the “Linear City” project, which subsequently influenced the theory of urban planning throughout the world. The causes of its emergence and the ideas, that its author, a Spanish engineer and entrepreneur Arturo Soria, tried to implement with his project, are analyzed. A detailed chronology of the emergence of the project and its initial successes is presented. Most research materials are presented in Russia for the first time.
