Annotation: 

The article discusses the problem of using expanded polystyrene at design, construction and reconstruction of lightweight embankments of general purpose highways on soft soils. As a result of the investigations, there were worked out recommendations on the choice of designs and calculations of the main parameters of road embankments using polystyrene foam blocks, which can form the basis of the industry road building technique. Various design solutions for the use of polystyrene foam blocks are presented, and the technical and economic feasibility of using them is shown.
