There exist bedroom communities in almost all major Russian cities. According to statistics, most residents consider the bedroom communities an unfavorable place for recreation, socializing and meetings. Currently, formation of a modern and comfortable urban environment, of which public spaces are an integral part, is of particular importance for the city and implies an extensive involvement of residents in the improvement of the district where they live. The article discusses the concept of «tactical urbanism» as a method of fast «updating» of bedroom communities, implying a specific approach to the development of urban areas, using short-term, low-cost and resource-intensive interventions.
