The article discusses the ways of improving the efficiency of using compacted soil beds in conditions of weak water-saturated soils. One of the effective ways is to reduce the bed thickness by increasing its strength (stiffness), which can be achieved by significantly compressing the bed material or by installing elements of high strength in its body (reinforcement). With this in mind, in conditions of weak water-saturated loess soils, there were conducted experimental and theoretical studies on the design and research of highly compacted (ρ d ≥ 2.0 t/m3) and reinforced with high-strength geosynthetic materials of soil beds imposed to static and seismic (seismically explosive) effects. It was found that the use of these beds allows reducing their thickness (height) by 1.5 ... 3 times and more than 5 times increasing the carrying capacity of artificial bases in conditions of weak water-saturated soils and high seismic activity of the territories.
