The paper studies the cyclic crack resistance of anelastic strip with a transverse eccentric crack under tension.A simple yet highly effective engineering method, whichis a generalization of the plane section method, is used todetermine the stress intensity factor. The stress intensityat every crack tip is estimated and compared with a well-known classical result obtained in rigorous mathematicalform. The dependence of the crack growth rate from bothtips on the defect size is established. The relationshipbetween the number of loading cycles required for crackgrowth within specified limits and the magnitude of theeccentricity is demonstrated.
