The article discusses end-to-end methods of organizing open and enclosed public spaces. Manege buildings were selected for analysis and confirmation of the author’s hypothesis. Due to their specific function and large size of these architectural objects, such approaches are used to the design of interiors that are similar to the ones used for the formation of streets and squares in the urban environment. In addition to the open-enclosed opposition, the authoranalyzes external-internal, universal-special, historical- modern real-virtual oppositions. The adaptation of the manege building for the placement of creative industries and immersive technologies is also considered. To illustrate the provisions put forward, manege buildings are studied in three cities: St. Petersburg, Moscow, and Nizhny Novgorod. The existence of these buildings is traced from the moment of creation to the present day. Emphasis is placed on the multi-functionality and universality of using the manege building space as public space for art. Generalizing conclusions are made, some of which can be expanded and applied not only to manege buildings, but also to buildings of other functional purposes. The author’s photographs of objects are demonstrated, some of them are published for the first time.
