The method of initial parameters described in the article is widely used in structural mechanics. There has been developed a boundary value problem of a linear differential equation with boundary conditions which is analyzed using the example of a pivotally supported beam. Some inconveniences of this method are demonstrated. Integral expressions are generated for each beam section where displacements are determined, which can be inconvenient and requires additional efforts. The application of generalized functions in writing the corresponding expressions is shown, which allows taking into account various conditions and options for influencing the beam. The procedure for integrating the differential equation describing the curved axis of the beam becomes more consistent and understandable.
